Choir practice 

We are excited to announce that ARC Cancer Support Centres have put together a choir called the ARC Angels.

We will be holding our choir practice in St Ann's Church on Dawson St on the Wednesday 28th August, Tuesday 10th September, Tuesday 24th September, Tuesday 8th October and Wednesday 23rd October from 6.15 pm -7.45 pm

Carers Course

We will run a Carers Course in ARC Eccles St on Monday 23rd September from 2pm - 4pm.

Cancer has a devastating impact both on the person diagnosed and on their family and friends Who supports the carer as they support their loved one. As roles change and demands increase carer’s are also dealing with shock of trauma of diagnoses often without support.

The carer’s course includes:

• The cares course creates a space for them to speak about their fears, worries and offers coping skills to deal with their changed circumstances

• Understanding the stress response and impact of trauma

• Understanding the impact of diagnosis on relationships

• How to communicate and listen more effectively

Survive and Thrive

Will begin in ARC Eccles St on Wednesday 2nd October from 10.30am - 1pm.

Subjects covered include: techniques to deal with  frustration, fatigue, pain, isolation, poor sleep and living with uncertainty, making decisions about treatment and complementary therapies, communicating, physical activity and nutrition.  Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives

Prostate Event with Dr Kiaran O'MalleyARC in Eccles St will welcome Dr Kiaran O'Malley, along with other guest speakers, on Thursday 10th October from 10.30am - 12.30pm.

Prostate Cancer Programme

Wednesday 16th October 1.30pm - 3.30pm in Eccles St for 6 weeks 

The Prostate Cancer Programme runs for six weeks with each meeting lasting two hours. It is led by a facilitator and invites knowledgeable and experienced guest speakers to come in to meet with the men and speak to them about some of the fundamental aspects of living with prostate cancer. The topics covered include Physical Activity and Nutrition, Relationship needs and issues, Sexual functioning, issues and concerns, Stress Management, Continence Issues.  The meetings are informal, discussion based and also give the men an opportunity to ask questions to enhance their knowledge and awareness.

Mater Private Moving on

The Mater Private Hospital and ARC will together run a  six week programme in ARC Eccles St starting on Thursday 17th October from 11am - 1pm.  The topics include:

  • Nutrition and Diet following your treatment
  • Understanding and managing Fatigue
  • Stress Management
  • Body image/ women and mens health
  • Health and Fitness
  • Moving on your way

New Chair Yoga

We are excited to introduce Chair Yoga to ARC in Eccles St. 

Chair yoga can lessen the impact of chronic illnesses and can help with stress management and coping with pain.  Ground your mind and body with this chair flow.  Perfect for all levels.  This routine is a great way to relax from head to toe without the stress of getting out of your chair.  Open your hips, move your shoulders and neck and lengthen your spine with this practice.
